In a time when so many musicians strive to be that one Olympian rock star in the competitive realm of pop music, student musicians with Music with Meaning can seek to explore the beauty inherent in playing or singing music with others regardless of proficiency level. Every recital hosted by Stoudt Studio features a group piece where all students and a couple professionals play together. Last year, students marched in to the recital playing New Orleans style, "St. James Infirmary" and "Tiger Rag" and marched out playing, "When the Saints Go Marching Out". This year's group piece is a surprise, but it will involve rhythm and light sticks.
Music with Meaning is for the student who yearns to play music. It's for the kid who needs to blow off steam, for the 5 year old prodigy who likes to play "stump the teacher", for the student with ADD who finds comfort and focus playing music, for the child in special education classes who becomes the best in the school band. It is for the student preparing to audition for the youth orchestras, honor band or "Solofest." It is for you or your child to discover what he or she can do.
Years ago I listened to a recording of 2 young Inuit girls making rhythmic tonal sounds by blowing into a teapot and then giggling about it. I still smile at that intimate glimpse of children delighted by making music. We proceed with that light spirit of having fun, deepening one's musicality through practice, listening and focus, and sharing music with others who really need music.
Students who study music in my Music with Meaning program have access to music I have recorded and printed to augment your lessons.
